We need to stop and think about our commitments. There are some who are committed to their jobs. There are others who are committed to their families. Even others who are committed to themselves. Being committed can be good or bad depending on the commitment and the situation; however, if we are not committed to God, then all we do is not for Him.

There are things we can do in our jobs that if we changed our commitment to God when we do them, we will be better employees and coworkers. By being committed to God on the job, we can get things done in a more timely manner, do good works and have better relationships. God has the ability to use us on the job when we are committed to Him as a witness and a loving servant to those we work with.

There are things we can do in our family that if we changed our commitment to God when we do them, we will be a better mother, father, son or daughter. By being committed to God in our homes, we can show love where Satan is trying to breed hate. We can show kindness where Satan is trying to stir up dissention. We can show care where Satan is trying to bring in apathy. When we commit to God in our family life, He will give us the ability to make powerful and positive changes in our homes.

There are things we can do in our lives that if we changed our commitment to God when we do them, we will be a better person. By being committed to God with ourselves, we can be more appreciative to Him for creating us and for what He can do through us. We can take better care of the bodies He has given us rather than putting bad things into them. We can have a positive attitude and outlook about all things rather than being negative. We can be a giving person who loves rather than a selfish one who is hates and is jealous. When we commit to God in our thoughts, actions and words, He will give us the ability to reach out to others, put them first and find ways to help them.

There is nothing God can’t do. He can remove the wrong things in our lives and make them right. But we have to take the first step. We need to move from being committed to the things of the world and our selfish ways. We have to decide today to be committed only to Him. He can help us to change and when we change, we will see a change in others as well.

What are we going to do today to renew our commitment to God in our jobs, in our homes and within ourselves?

Psalm 37:5 “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.” (NLT)
